6/6/2006

1. The date is getting close. Based our statistical survey, most of the registered authors committed to attend the conference and present their research. Wonderful! At an international conference, attendance of conference, paper presentation, exchange of research ideas, and discussion of future collaboration are much more important than the paper publications. We feel very sorry some can not make it, which we understand. We are very glad that many researchers registered and planed to attend the conference, although they do not have papers.

2. Based on the complexity of attendance, it is quite difficult to schedule the final technical program. Thanks to the authors’ supports, we made it. Attached please find the final version of technical program for your use. Make sure to save it. You can also download it from our conference web site.

3. Each confirmed and registered author should have his/her registration ID in order to pick the conference materials (including two volumes of conference proceedings, tickets for lunch, dinner, banquet, and conference social event, etc).

4. The conference proceedings (published by IEEE Computer Society) have two very thick volumes (Vol. 1 and Vol. 2). They are quite heavy. They look great. Each registered paper should have a copy of both volumes. All the conference proceedings are already shipped to the conference site at Zhejiang University. We are pretty sure each attendee will have the proceeding in his/her hand when our conference begins. We will also mail the conference proceedings to the authors who are absent. However, it takes time. We will do our best. Thanks for your tolerance in advance.

5. Conference presentation materials should be developed as early as possible. That is why we sent a message to you for requesting a ppt file. We encourage you to send us the presentation materials so we can post online (in PDF file). When you start to present, all you will do is to click a link. It saves lots of time.

6. Based on our experience, many international presenters developed their PPT files using different language kits, which some time can not display on screen appropriately. Here we would like to reminder you that presentation materials should be developed in English.

7. We strongly encourage graduate students to present their papers. It is a great chance for practice. Make sure control the presentation time in 20 minutes (15 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for questions and answers).

8. For poster presentation, make sure bring the poster and then post it on the board we will prepare for you. The poster time frame is in the technical program (see attached file). The size is about 1 m by 1.5 m, more or less. You can develop one as a single sheet or couple small ones and paste them together. Color posts are appreciated but not necessary. Make sure every one deliver a good talk historically.

9. The conference has a “social gather” which is scheduled on June 20’s afternoon. Please welcome people to stop by, so we can know each other, share information, and discuss future collaborations. It is the most exciting event at the conference.

10. Make sure to check our Career Path web site. We welcome you to post your needs.

11. We have just started collect papers and form a special issue for BMC Bioinformatics; we will soon select papers for other special issues for journals (about 10 journals). Again, there are many issues we will follow up the conference event. Please keep eyes open.

12. We are working hard on selecting site for hosting next year’s IMSCCS (IMSCCS|07). We will let you know at the conference.

5/9/2006

  1. Hotel issue

As you all know Hangzhou is a famous attraction. It is difficult to reserve hotel room during June. The conference committee has reserved hotels rooms for you with a special price. Please immediately reserve room. Attached are the special order forms. The deal is ended on May 31.

The contact information is provided within the attached files. Make sure take Keji Hotel as high preference, since the conference will be held there.

After you reserve the hotel, please drop an email to cesc@zjuem.zju.edu.cn, indicating that the author of PaperXXX already reserved the room at XXX hotel.

Again, make sure you know that the special price ends on May 31!
The authors are responsible for hotel reservation and registration, as the regulation of international conference.

  2. Presentation and Poster Issues

We need to know the status of your attending. Again, a regular paper needs an oral presentation, while short paper needs a poster.

You can find the preliminary program on the web (http://www.imsccs-conference.org/programs.htm)

Attached are preliminary presentation schedule and poster schedule.

We encourage the authors to attend the conference. If you can not make it due to some reason, please let us know in advance, so we can re-schedule our program; enhance to increase conference quality and efficiency. This is important, since we have to count on the number of total registered attendees so we can provide better service, while avoiding unnecessary cost. Based on the statistics, we can order foods and schedule rooms.

Please send your email to Jun Ni (jun-ni@uiowa.edu)!
“Registered author XXX of Paper XXX will attend the conference to present or poster our paper”

or

“Registered author XXX of Paper XXX can not attach the conference due to “XXX…” reasons. We will send you the presentation materials for posting online

We start to operate the paper selection procedure for journals. At this moment, we can only focus on a special supplement on BMC Bioinformatiics (http://www.biomedcentral.com/bmcbioinformatics/), the world top online journal in bioinformatics with impact factor 5.42. We will work on other specials lately.

Make sure that an international conference is not just for publishing a conference paper. It is a great chance to learn, share and collaborate with other researchers and professionals. We have many things need to be accomplished and follow up.

The conference has a special spot called CareerPath (http://www.imsccs-conference.org/careerPath.htm). Each registered author has its privilege to post their information related to career and jobs. Please welcome to visit.
The conference has a social cooperation corner on the night of June 20 in Keji Hotel. It allows us to know each other and discuss future collaborations. Be aware of that.

The proceeding in printing service. There are two volumes each has about 900 pages. The proceeding will be delivered to Zhejiang University once it is done. We are sure that the conference proceeding will be in your hand, when you are there.

4/17/2006

1. We have accomplished all the author registrations. Attendee registration is still open to the public. The total number of the registered papers are 274 (including 204 regular papers and 70 short papers). They will be put together under each symposium and ready for printing service. Please double check your paper information (title and author’s names) one more time, before we hand the list over to the IEEE Computer Society Office for final printing tomorrow! The web site is http://www.imsccs-conference.org/paperList.htm

2. It is time for us to design our conference technical program. We will soon post it on our conference Web.

3. Now it is time for us to prepare presentation materials. Both regular and short papers need to prepare presentation materials in advance. The regular paper authors use the materials for oral presentations and short paper authors use the materials for posters.

Both authors need to send us the PPT files named paperXXX.ppt. This way, we can upload in each laptop and ultimately save us lots of time. Also, we can post the presentation materials online through our conference web site permanently. Please prepare them as early as possible.

a. Each regular paper is restricted to a 20-minute talk. (15 minutes for oral presentation and 5 minutes to answer questions). Estimated to be about 8-10 slides of Microsoft PowerPoint.

b. Each short paper has a poster which is about 24” by 36” size. It is preferred that you have a color poster; but it is not required.

c. Make sure all the characters are English characters, scientific or other Language characters may not be recognized by the operating system of the laptops used for presentation (It is important).

4/6/2006

1. First I would like to express my deep appreciation to the people supporting me. They work day and night to review each paper including English grammar and errors in expression, and format. To be honest, many papers’ formats are not qualified, although they hav already passed IEEE CS PDF file screening. We have to go though each paper individually.

There are many American professionals including professors, scientists, and graduate students helping me to go through each paper. I serve as a contact person and have become a spokesman lately, since many email messages contain Chinese characters which they can not understand. My job is really tough but I love it.

2. Thanks also goes to all the authors (you) who understand our challenge and were tolerant of our aggressive pushing, because we have to catch the deadline to put our proceedings on the IEEE Computer Society’s time table. Otherwise, we will never accomplish this event. We continue to accept your support and help!

3. Almost all the authors faxed their copyright forms to the IEEE CS office in L. A. California. Silvia is very happy, although I never met her before. If anyone has not faxed his/her copyright form, please do it soon. Otherwise their list will delete your data entry.

4. Most of the authors registered the conference. Few of them are either on the way for business trip, or due to bank transferring delay, and slow procedure as well. We have to confirm each registration before we can request IEEE CS printing service. It is fare to every one.

5. About 10% of the papers withdrew from the conference due to the high cost of registration. In fact two papers from my research group withdrew too (that made some of my graduate students cry. But I am happy, since I can save some research funds.).

6. Statistical data show that the accepted paper contributions were from many different domains. This statistical data has great value to today’s computer and computational sciences

3/27/2006

World top leader of Grid computing, Prof. Ian Foster accept our honorary chair of this conference. He will fully support us.

3/22/2006

There is more good news for you. Yesterday, I phoned my very close friend, Prof. Hamid Arabnia, the Chief Editor of the Journal of Supercomputing, Springer/Klauwer publisher, which is a world-level top journal in supercomputing or high performance computing.

He also organized many multi conferences in computer science. (http://www.world-academy-of-science.org/Home/ws) which meets in Los Vegas in June annually. He agreed that I can initiate a special issue to be published in the Journal of Supercomputing. There are three editorial board members of this journal (Jack, Yi Pan, and me) are our conference committee member. I am confident we can handle the quality. I would like to select 10 papers from the Symposium of High Performance Computing Technology and Applications (HPCTA|06) and Symposium of Distributed Systems and Data Distributions (DSDD|06) in our conference. The recommended papers will be submitted to the journal review committee for rigorous peer review.

3/17/2006

The world's top online journal BMC Bioinformatics has agreed to select about 20 papers from our symposiums “IMSCCS --- Symposium of Computations in Bioinformatics and Bioscience (SCBB|06)”, chaired by Dr. Youping Deng (Program Chair of SCBB06) from Univ. of Southern Mississippi (http://www.usm.edu/biology/Faculty_Profile_Youping_Deng.htm), and Prof. Jun Ni (Program Co-chair of SCBB06; General Chair of IMSC|06) from Center of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB) University of Iowa (http://genome.uiowa.edu/members.html).

People who work in the domain of Bioinformatics should definitely know BMC Bioinformatics. The journal is open and online. It attracts world wide researchers to track the fronts of bioinformatics. The journal's impact factor is 5.42. (http://www.biomedcentral.com/bmcbioinformatics/).
After the conference, we will carefully select papers and recommend to the journal editorial board that they be published in the form of a special issue.

It is a great opportunity for the authors who attend our SCBB06 symposium and hear the wonderful presentations. I have screened the papers and they look great to me. The presenters/authors are mainly from

1. First, I deeply appreciate your support, understanding, and help. Without the authors’ support, it would be impossible to have this conference. Since this is the first conference of this kind, we definitely need your assistance. We hope to develop a long term relationship. I am confident that we can do this.

2. I have called the IEEE CS office and Silvia told me that she has already received many final camera-ready papers and copyright forms. I have asked whether authors can re-submit the paper. She said "yes". She suggested that the authors rename the file as PaperXXX_rev. Therefore, you still have time to continue to polish your papers.

3. The important and exciting news is that since many authors are concerned about the proceedings index, especially for the authors from China. When we started to organize this conference, the IEEE CS manager confirmed that the conference proceeding will be indexed by SCI. In order to further confirm this, I have called Tom and he has replied me. That is his confirmation for your reference.

"The IEEE understands the need for conference publications to be indexed as widely as possible. This is something we've been working on accomplishing for some time. I can now confirm that all our conference publications *are* being indexed through INSPEC indexing service, the EI Compendex database and the Science Citation Index (SCI).

Hope this is helpful.

Best regards,
Tom

4. Regarding the registration fee, we believe it is reasonable. We have to balance the conference budget. We organize many international conferences around the world, and the cost to hold a conference in China is getting higher and higher. Many addtional costs are included in the conference are the services such as lunches, dinners etc. Besides, we have yet to gain the confirmed sponsorship from sponsors. In addition, the IEEE CS service charge to publish volumes of the proceedings is high. Therefore we have to stay with the registration fee of $450 for each author, and $300 for people who do not have papers presented. Our statistics shows that 98% of papers’ first authors are students. Therefore, we do not have the discount for students. We are sorry about the high but necessary registration fee.

5. Last but very important message to you is that Zhejiang University is not the conference organizer. This conference is not a locally organized conference. It is an international conference. The Center for Engineering and Scientific Computation, Zhejiang University sponsors this conference by helping us collect registration fees, reserve the conference site, as well as supplying services. We appreciate their support in advance. If you have any technical questions or policy issues, please contact the IMSCCS conference committee or me. They are not responsible for the organization. Thanks must go to them and questions must come to us. Thank you for your support. I deeply appreciate it.

3/11/2006

1. There are some people sent us email message about proceeding indexes. I we answered before, all the IEEE CS Press published conference proceedings are indexed by EI and SCI. Dr. Jun Ni received the confirmed message before organizing this conference. However, in order to further confirm this, yesterday, Dr. Jun Ni called the IEEE CS manager and we confirmed it again. In fact, IEEE CS is the top Press who publishes many high level conference papers in computer science. This is a great chance for us to stay with IEEE CS.

2. There are many exciteding news. Couple jounrals and book publications are interested in our future publications. Therefore, after the conference, we will recomend many good papers for jounral paper publications. Dr. Jun Ni willl form couple special issues in several journals. These jounrals so far are Journal of Supercomputing by Springer, International Journal of Computational Science and Engineering by Inderscience, International Journals of High Performance Computing and Networking, by Indersicnece, Nova Science Publisher in New York, International Journal of Biomedical Imaging, couple of world top level Bioinformatics journals, etc. We are working on each special issue and will let you know soon. Make sure we will do our best to provide high quality papers!

3. This year, we did not catch the timeline for apply the IEEE CS sponsorship. It usually takes about one year to process. We will do next year (IMSCCS07). Therefore, we would like to make it clear that this conference is not IEEE CS sponsored conference. But IEEE CS will closely work with us and committed to support us through their conference publication service. The conference proceeding will be published by IEEE CS Press as the same as IEEE CS sponsored conference. The only impact to us is the budgeting. I am sure will can overcome it with the authors' support and understanding.

3/3/2006

  1. We (IMSCCS committee and organizers) are extremely busy working in collecting the acceptance results. Different symposiums may have different time tables. That is why we are little behind. Overall, it is so far so good.
  2. You may realize that our conference has its own web site at www.imsccs-conference.org/. This means it is no long under my Web at the University of Iowa. It becomes more professional. Please be aware of that.
  3. Our conference will be held annually around the world. We have not decided when and where will be the next conference. One thing for sure is it has to be on one of top universities (campus) in the world. The conference is only dedicated to one of top academic institutions.
  4. We need to speedup catching the IEEE Computer Society’s deadline (cutting deadline: March 24) for submitting a final camera-ready version. There is no negotiation at all. If the author(s) did not catch the deadline, it is out off game. Therefore, all of you need to work hard and closely cooperate with us. Thanks you for your support in advance.
  5. The IEEE CS has set up an online author’s submission Web site for this conference. It allows authors to independently submit final version. However, the IEEE CS reserves their rights to reject an accepted paper, if the requirement is not followed. We believe the instruction is very clear. Therefore, we need you to carefully read the instruction and follow the steps. The web site address is http://www.computer.org/portal/pages/ieeecs/publications/cps/final/imsccs06.html. Our proceeding editor is Ms. Silvia Ceballos, an expert in editing proceedings for IEEE CS.
  6. We recommend you to use the correspondence authors’ email address as “user id” and assigned paperID (like paper335) as “password”.
  7. Besides, please make sure fill out the copyright form and fax to Press. No copyright form and no registration, no publication. It has to be followed by an international law!
  8. We strongly recommended each author sends us a word and pdf files together with copyright form electronically for backup, since we have professionals who can help correct paper format or give authors some suggestions.
  9. Some of you may receive the paper notification of acceptance, and other may not. That is due to our heavy loadings. Appreciate your tolerance.
  10. Another issue is (as we emphasized again) that always use paperID to communicate with us. Each final paper can be saved paperIDfinal.doc and paperIDfinal.pdf. For example, I have a paper identified as paper331. I always save as paper331.doc or paper331.pdf. Now I save the final camera-ready version as paper331final.doc and paper331final.pdf. Little thing save us lots of time and efforts. Otherwise we have to type each author name or email address to search for the entity in our database. Little change may cause tons of time.
  11. We have several international journals who are interested in solicit recommended papers from our symposiums. We will announce that late. Since we have to concentrate on the paper submission and final registration.
  12. The registration web site and form will be released soon. We are working on it.
  13. Last but most important is “Make sure cooperate with us and make this conference as a successful one with great reputation.

2/11/2006: In order to avoid doubel charge of hotel service, the IMSCCS conference committee decided to change conference day from June22-26 to June 20-24. Therefore, the official conference days are June 20 (Tuesday afternoon, conference registration), June 21 (Wednesday), June 22 (Thursday), and June 23 (Friday).

2/10/2006: The Conference will be held in Zhejiang University's Science and Technology Garden Hotal. Other two ded recomended hotels are Xinyu Star Hotel (Tian Mou Rd. 323) and HaiweiHai Hotel (Tian Mou Rd. 329).
